YVONNE PUFFER

The Home Place

Margarete Roeder Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of
Yvonne Puffer from May 19 through June 26, 2004.

The Home Place, an exhibition of new work by New York City artist Yvonne Puffer is inspired by the work of the American writer and photographer, Wright Morris (1910-1998). Through a combination of drawings and a stage set-like tableau, Puffer has re-imagined the gallery as a way to enter a world that no longer exists. What results is a quiet investigation of rural America, family, change and memory.

Artist Statement:
I had always been drawn to Morris's images in part because it triggered memories of my own childhood spent on my grandparent's farm in upstate New York during the 1950's. Once I had completed the series of drawings based on Morris's photographs, I searched until I found a way to blend the images of his home place with mine.

Publication Information:
In Spring 2005, D.A.P. will publish an artist's book by Yvonne Puffer of the work this exhibition.
